Reiki I

A BRIEF NOTE ON REIKI

Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a Japanese word consisting of two characters "Rei" and "Ki".

Rei means spirit or soul.

Ki means energy and originally connoted a sense of air or atmosphere, that which pervades and surrounds.

These Japanese ideograms therefore embody the concept of universal life force appropriate to healing, an all-enveloping energy of body, soul and spirit.

Everyone is born with Reiki, for it is the energy of life itself. It is the energy that emanates from the hands of a Reiki therapist. The embodiment and power of Reiki can simply be described as “ a tap in” with the cosmic universal force. It is the white light energy which is a transforming energy on all levels of a person’ beingness…Reiki is a universal truth. It is simple and direct, can be done at any time or place. Requires no equipment, and literally the essence of the Reiki classes—that is, the transmission and the hand positions- could be taught to any and all intellects and nationalities with little translating.

Throughout history many cultures and races have always been aware of the existence of this energy which corresponds to the meaning of “Ki”. It is called:-

Chi by the Chinese;

Holy Ghost by the Christians;

Prana by the Hindus;

Mana by the Kahunas;

Bioplasmic energy by the Russian researchers;

Ka by the Egyptians;

Pneuma by the Greeks etc.

They are all one and the same basic energy , although the extent to which they are applied and the theories concerning them differ greatly.

 The Usui system is a healing art that utilizes this universal life energy power by channeling it through our body and into the diseased individual for rebalancing through “ laying on of hands”. The system is available to all who seek freedom from pain and suffering.

REIKI  LEVELS

In Usui Reiki there are three levels that are taught traditionally.

Level I - Reiki Level I (called Shoden in Japan) is taught to those that wish to learn

to use the Reiki Energy. The class is taught by a Reiki Master trained to pass the

attunements and teach Reiki. Traditional Usui Healing Systems use a set of four

attunements. A Reiki I class material generally includes the hand positions used when

doing Reiki on self and others, the Reiki principles, and the history of Reiki. You then

receive the attunements. Once you have received the attunements you are a Reiki

Practitioner. Whether you practice Reiki or not is your choice.

Level II - Reiki Level II (called Okuden in Japan)

Level II generally includes the three Reiki Symbols (Focus, Harmony, and

Connection), Mental/Emotional Healing, Distant Healing, symbols use and meanings

are taught and the student receives one attunement.

Level III (Master Level) - Third Level Reiki (called Shinpiden in Japan) is the

Master Level of Reiki. The Usui Master Symbol it’s meaning and application is taught.

This symbol completes the other three symbols taught at Level II.

Masters are taught how to initiate others into Reiki using the attunement process.
